EXHIBITS FOR 2008

*THE HISTORY OF HON COMPANY IN CEDARTOWN

March 1 - May 28

Originally known as Home-O-Nize, the HON Company came to Cedartown in 1969 as a fledgling producer of filing cabinets. In 38 years HON has experienced three plant expansions, the tornado of 1993 and an employee growth from 27 to over a thousand.

 

*TEXTILES AND FABRICS: FROM QUILTS TO LACE

June 4 - August 30

A display of early to mid-twentieth century needlework and handicrafts prevalent in Polk County. Besides quilts, spreads and vintage clothing, the exhibit includes embroidery, crocheting, lace, tatting and samples of applique and cross-stitch. The exhibit is dedicated to local artist Polly Harrison who died in 2007. She not only used traditional methods of weaving textiles, but recycled celluloid, used stamps, men's ties and rubber strips into wall hangings and baskets, some adorned with multicolored pet vaccination tags.
